Matters, cases, and stages that exist

Zephyro ships a law firm template. Work is a Matter, matters group under a Case, and the stages follow a file from intake to closed.

What usually goes wrong

Legal work does not fit a sprint and does not fit a ticket queue. A matter can sit on hold for a month, then move twice in a day. Tools built for software teams have no vocabulary for that, so the firm keeps the real position in a spreadsheet and the tool becomes a place to file things after the fact.

What the template gives you

Work named Matter, grouped under Cases. Stages: intake, active, on hold, in litigation, settled, closed. No sprints, because a matter is not planned in two-week increments. Departments and fields are yours to set.

What changes

“On hold” is a stage rather than an absence, so work that is genuinely waiting is visible instead of looking abandoned. A filtered view is a link — the list of everything in litigation for one client is something you send, not something you rebuild.
